Brooklyn-born, Pennsylvannia-based Max Martinez, whoīs made a big noise on the East Coast scene with a string of steady-rocking remixes and originals for Maya Records, Aztec Tribalism, Selecta Recordings and others, comes up with a pair of aces in a deep-tribal-tech vein for his Republic debut. Meanwhile label founder Seph steps up with a rework on the flip thatīs as melodic as it is epic. These three sharp new tracks make up a balanced attack that will dominate sets in many formats. The Itīs My Life EP shows why the New York underground still leads the way when it comes to the authentic sound of house. "Itīs My Life" - With thick percussion, brooding keyboard stabs and ghostly hints of soul, this driving track is classic New York instrumental deepness. The scattered snippets of spoken word are both a plain statement of musical devotion and a declaration of independence from the commercial clutter. "Call of the Maya" - This track takes us on a tribal tech-house ride, with bursts of percussion, shards of noise and dark dubby keyboards layered over pulsating Latin drums.
